White Flower Brooche

White Flower Brooch

I am very happy, that you are so interested in white flower brooch that illustrates my first blog post. So, finally, I can present the pattern, that will help you to crochet similar flower. I used the word similar, because it is almost impossible to get the same result. The idea is that I present you the basic idea, and the final result will depend on your interpretation, yarn, hook size and other factors.
The yarn choice is very important in this case. I have no doubt that you will create wonderful flowers using almost any kind of yarn you like, but I would recommend you trying some fuzzy mohair yarn. Mohair makes a flower look light and soft. Also, you should choose 3-3,5 mm hook to reach such an effect. Mohair is quite thin in many cases, so the petals will look great. The final step is decorating the finished flower. You should try different stones or gems, to get the most beautiful look.

Materials:
1.    Some nice mohair yarn. You can try using Soft Boucle Mohair Yarn or other one you like.
2.    3-3,5 mm hook;
3.    Scissors and tapestry needle;
4.    Round stone or gem to decorate the center of flower. I used very nice round black lava stone. You may like these lava stones.
5.   Pin backs for brooches to finish you brooch.

Instructions:
The flower consists of two parts. Firstly you should crochet a round circle as flower basis and after that you will crochet petals. I will give you only basic pattern, because you will see, that it is very easy to modify this pattern on your own way.

Flower basis.
Round 1. Ch 4, sl st to form a ring.
Round 2. Make 8 sc into the ring. Do not finish the round with sl st. Simply start a new round on the next st.
Round 3. Make *2 bl sc into each st*, repeat 7 more times. Bl sc is a back loop single crochet stitch. You do a regular single crochet, but insert your hook only in a loop, that is farthest from you.
Round 4. Make * 2 bl sc into the next 2 st, 1 bl sc into the next st*, repeat 4 more times, make 1 bl sc into the next st. Fasten off.

Petals
Start at the center. Now you will be working front loop stitches. This will form very nice petals. When you reach the final row of flower basis, you should start working regular single crochet stitches. This will form the nice back of your brooch.
Sl st  into the first st from the center, ch 2, bl dc into the same st, bl dc into the next st, ch 2, sl st into the same st. *Sl st into the next st, ch 2, bl dc into the same st, bl dc into the next st, ch 2, sl st into the same st* repeat 3 more times. *Sl st into the next st, bl dc into the same st, bl dc into the next st, bl dc into the next st, ch 2, sl st into the same st* repeat 4 more times. Sl st into the next st, bl dc into the same st, 2 bl dc into the next st, bl dc into the next st, ch 2, sl st. From now, you should  have reached the final row and should start working regular dc stitches. *Sl st into the next st, ch 2, dc into the same st, 2 dc into the next st, dc into the next st, ch 2, sl st into the same st*, repeat 6-7 more times. Fasten off.

I suppose that now you have a nice flower finished. Attach a gemstone in the center and pin back. Your brooch is ready to wear.

I am not sure, how should I make graphical instruction for this pattern. The problem is that the flower has two layers, so it is quite hard to draw that. If you have some ideas, I would gladly accept them.
Please, share your experience on crocheting this flower. If you find some mistakes, please comment, I would appreciate that.

    So Pretty! I’m going to try this
    What about taking a picture of the steps vs draw?

      Sammi, thank you for your feedback. I have the same idea of taking pictures. The problem is that I am not so good in taking pictures than I would like to be. But I am improving my skills. Be sure, soon I will add step by step instructions on this flowers. I have crocheted plenty of these brooches. I love them!

    Round 4. Make * 2 bl sc into the next 2 st, 2 bl sc into the next st*, repeat 4 more times, make 1 bl sc into the next st. Fasten off.

    This looks like it is just saying to make 2 bl sc into each stitch all the way around except the very last stitch, which gets “1 bl sc” -is that right?
    I’m just confused by the wording, I think – don’t understand 2 bl sc into the next 2 st, then 2 bl sc into the next st, when that’s the same thing you were doing in the previous 2 st.
    Help?
    Thank you!

      Tess, I am sorry for the confusing wording. I am improving my English skills.
      In round 3 you are making 2 bl sc into each stitch all the way around until you finish the whole round.
      In round 4 you should make 2 bl sc into the next st, 2 bl sc into the next st and 1 bl sc into the next st. I mean this, while I was saying that you should work 2 bl sc into the next two st. There is a mistake in this row, and I fixed it now. Thank you for revealing it.

    Hi, this a a wonderful flower brooch! I might be missing something… But what is “bl sc”?
    Thanks :)

  4. Crochet Flower Patterns says:

    Amanda, the meaning of bl sc is explained in flower basis round 3.
    Bl sc is a back loop single crochet stitch. You do a regular single crochet, but insert your hook only in a loop, that is farthest from you.
